Overdue: Day 1

So it begins... I am overdue.

Day 1 wasn't too damn eventful. I started the day out with a Timmies coffee, had some yogurt for breakfast, and then went into cleaning and tidying mode most of the day.

I talked to my parents for a bit... PC came home from work a bit early, and since then I have just been doing laundry and walking up and down the stairs as much as possible - good times!

I even got up the energy to make a batch of spaghetti sauce .. so at least supper will be good.

Last night... on my actual due date, PC took some pics of the belly, complete with a shot of my lovely stretch mark that appeared last week! I thought I would post them for your viewing pleasure!

Enjoy!

The big day officially arrives.... AND

AND NOTHING.

Today is my actual due date.... check out the counter on the right sidebar - it says zero, which is an exact indication of what has happened today - zero, zip, ziltch activity in the labour department!

Baby Coleman is moving around inside of me like he/she wants to be there for another twenty years. But I have news for this baby.... SHAPE UP AND SHIP OUT! That's something you are suppose to say to your 30 year old son or daughter still living at home, not to a helpless unborn infant, but I can't help it! For nine months you wait and wait and wait and plan and plan and plan around this one date, and when nothing happens, you start to wonder what you have to do make this baby come out!

I pretty much knew this baby wouldn't come on time... because, well, I am never on time for anything - so I guess this is payback for the 28 years of my life I have spent arriving fashionably late for everything!

Hopefully these good labour vibes everyone is sending me will eventually pay off! PC has actually been really sick the last few days so its probably a blessing that I haven't gone into labour yet... but he seems to be feeling a bit better today - so hopefully that's a positive sign too!

Stay tuned... you haven't heard the last of my whining - I'm sure of it!

The last child free anniversary!

Well... we made it! PC and I are celebrating our 3rd anniversary today, and its sure to be the last one without children, as Baby Coleman is due to arrive in 5 days (whether or not that actually happens, is a whole other post).

Today... reminds me much of our wedding day. It's absolutely beautiful outside, not a cloud in the sky.

It's hard to believe its been three years already! This one seemed to sneak up on us as I think we have been so busy preparing for the baby, that the last half of this year has flown by.

Nonetheless... each anniversary is a milestone, and I am proud to say we've reached this one with few hardships! In a time when so many couples are splitting up, I am glad that PC and I still have a solid foundation to rely on - and I am even more excited that we are about to become parents together! What a great way to celebrate our 3rd anniversary!

Happy Anniversary PC - as always, I love you!

Is half-decent service really too much to ask for?

Brace yourself, I am about to go on a rant about a topic that has been bugging me for quite a while: young teens working in the customer service industry.

On three separate recent occasions, I have walked out of a store (in Embrun) shaking my head at the young teen working there, because of their inability to use common sense when serving myself and a long line of others!

A few weeks ago I decided to get a coffee at Tim Horton's after getting my groceries. I drove over to Timmy's only to see that the drive-thru line up was out to the road, so I figured I would have better luck getting served inside the Timmy's.

Now, a year or so ago you may recall my royal disgust for the Timmy's in Embrun... as it was slow moving no matter what time you rolled in there, but in the last 6 months I have noticed a huge improvement in customer service/satisfaction in the morning rush hour. This observation gave me new found respect for the Embrun Timmy's... as I felt they got their act together!

However... on this particular visit, it seemed they were back to their old shenanigans of brutally slow service. And no wonder why... !

When I got inside I was the 4th customer in line... and there was one teenaged girl working the cash. She was helping a couple of guys get their orders, which were sandwich combos and ice capps. In my opinion her job should be to take the order, get their drinks, and then turn over the sandwich making to the employee on the sandwich bar. This seemed to be what she wanted to do, but it took her a good 5-7 minutes to get their drinks ready, and then another 2 to ensure the sandwiches were going to be made by someone else. Just when she could take another customer at her cash, an employee emerges from the back room.

I am thinking, this employee is coming out to help in what is clearly the 4 o'clock rush, but NO, she is actually on her way home. The original girl on cash seems surprised by her exit, and proceeds to step away from the cash... and strike up a 3 minute conversation with her about why she is leaving. This happens off to the side of the cash, in front myself and 3 other customers ahead of me. So now... while these two lovely teenagers have their discussion, no one is working the cash, which means no one is getting served - NOTHING IS HAPPENING.

Finally, the drive-thru head-honcho (who I would put in her 20s), comes around the corner for a donut and sees this all transacting. She proceeds to promptly notify the cash girl that she must get back to workimmediately. Clearly unhappy about it, she steps back to her cash to finally take the next customer. Another employee emerges from the back room and looks shocked to see how long the line up is - he's jumps on the second cash, and finally after 15 minutes of waiting, I am served.

I leave Timmy's shaking my head, thinking that at 15 or 16 I know I was not THAT stupid, and would have never left the cash to talk to a friend while the line up was out the door.

I thought this may have been a one time deal, but earlier this week while PC and I were at Subway, we had the same type of experience. We arrive at Subway... and are their only customers, a girl greets us and asks up what we want, I order and PC is about to order when a second girl from the back comes out and the first girl stops PC in mid-sentence to tell the second girl 'Oh My God, I totally dropped a sub this afternoon on the floor, it was soooooo hot, I just drop it, totally - right there, and the guy was like starring at me, but I was like I am sorry dude, it was too freakin hot'. Then she looks back up at PC, and says 'Sorry about that, totally off topic, what did you want?' - Totally off topic? - thanks tips, we couldn't figure that one out for ourselves.

By the time we get our subs, a line-up has formed out the door... PC and I sit down and eat only to observe these two girls and one guy serve these 8 customers. You would think their priority would be take an order, make a sub, obtain payment - REPEAT. But no... all I can hear is them talking about so and so's boyfriend who cheated on her and then got beat up at a party - and god knows what else. The tables are mess ... food on all of them, and a garbage overflowing to boot.

One of the employees leaves the line up to go to the bathroom, and has to step over the overflowing trash to get into the washroom. I am thinking when she emerges she will empty the trash and mop up the spilt pop besides it, but NO, she comes out the washrooms, looks at the trash and is as disgusted as we are. She shakes her head and goes into the back room never to emerge again.

HELLO? Clean it up, or at least notify someone who's job it is to clean it up that it is has to be done. Once the line-up is cleared, the other two employees take a seat and chat away, while the restaurant remains dirty. I leave in disgust - AGAIN!

Today... at the grocery store, I wanted to ring the teenaged girl's neck who was working the cash. First of all she couldn't be bothered to be at work, and as she starts ringing through my items she puts them in a plastic bag. I say to her that I have reusable bags (which were the first thing I put on the counter), and she looks at me like I have 4 heads. Then as she rings the rest of the items through, she puts 3 things in each bag as if I have 30 reusable bags with me. Then she asks me if I want the rest in plastic, to which I reply 'No, I think we can fit everything in these 4 bags'. By the look on her face you would think I had just asked her to pee in a cup and drink it. As she packs everything into the four bags, she has bread on the bottom, apple juice on top of the bread, some bananas, and then a pound of ground beef to top it off.

Last time I checked packing groceries isn't rocket science, but apparently it's a skill that some teenagers just can't grasp. Again, I leave the store shaking my head.

There is no way, NO WAY I was that incompetent when I was that age. I understand that these jobs are just that - part-time jobs, not careers. They are doing it for one purpose, the cash, and only the cash. But how hard is it to use your brain in these jobs. I am not asking for over the top service, I am just asking for a little common sense when it comes to customer service. You don't need to talk to me or compliment me or anything out of the ordinary, you just have to use a few brain cells and do the job you were hired to do.

I am not saying all teenagers are like this, as I have had perfectly decent service from some of these teenagers, but it seems to be a growing trend lately, that these Generation Y peeps just don't care, and aren't about to start to anytime soon.

Has anyone else noticed that this generation of teenagers approaches life a bit different that the last?

Hello Daytime Television

Now that I am home during the day, I seem to be catching more 'daytime tv'. Lately this does include me rekindling my relationship with daytime soap operas, such as Young and the Restless, As the World Turns, General Hospital, and the odd episodes of Days of Our Lives and Bold and the Beautiful.

I love the fact that I haven't watched Days of Our Lives in about 10 years, yet I still know the characters and can still pick up the story lines about 10 minutes into an episode. I was not shocked to find out that Stephano Dimera is still alive, after he was thought to be dead for about the 40th time.

Above and beyond daytime soap operas, daytime tv also consists of the standard talk shows. I have always been a fan of Oprah... and I can take or leave Dr. Phil, but Dr. Phil has endorsed a new daytime show called 'The Doctors'. Normally I wouldn't really be attracted to this type of show... its similar to Oprah's Dr. Oz shows, and I frankly lose interest in Dr. Oz pretty easily. However... when I saw an episode of The Doctors on Global the other afternoon, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the host of the show is non-other than ex-bachelor Travis Stork.

You may recall my strong affection for The Bachelor/Bachelorette show... Travis Stork was no disappointment to me in the Bachelor series - although like many bachelors before him, he never did end up marrying the final rose candidate, but nonetheless, he made the show entertaining.

I am pretty sure when I started watching The Doctors I would have keep channel surfing, if it weren't for him. It was almost like a car accident ... he is a BRUTAL host, but I couldn't help but watch him! I actually didn't mind the show topics, even with the bad hosting. There were a few interesting topics on caffeine, pregnancy, etc... and it has kept my interest so far - well, Dr. Stork has kept my interest when he's talking about these topics.

But, I have to wonder if this show will satisfy an audience for very long... Dr. Stork is a good initial attraction, but after that, I am not sure if this show will go the distance. I did see an ad today that deemed it the best new talk show of the season (although, I don't know of any other new talk shows this season, so it may be the lone candidate in this category!).

Check out an episode if you can, and let me know what you think!

Starbucks Marathon

I love Starbucks... I am no superfan or anything, but I do enjoy a Starbucks latte every now and again, or a blended lemonade, or a tazo chai... it really depends on my mood.

I saw this story a few weeks back, and thought it was pretty amusing. The story is over a year old, but nonetheless, it still caught my attention.

When I visited NYC in May of this year, I couldn't help but notice the number of Starbucks in Manhattan. There was literally one on every corner, if not two or three.

According to this guy's video... there are 171 Starbucks in Manhattan... his quest was to visit and consume something from every location within a 24 hour period. Check out the You Tube video below to see his accomplishment!

Presenting... Baby Coleman's Bedroom Suite!

Well... its been a few months in the making... but Baby Coleman's gender neutral room is finally ready for its reveal.

I have to say this was a joint effort between PC and I... my ideas, but he had to carry out the majority of the work and installation. He painted the walls and assembled the furniture, while I wore the white hat and carried the bull horn!

I am very happy with how it turned out... and I hope Baby Coleman loves it just as much as I do!

Now... the moment you've all been waiting for:

Not working... weird!

Yes, I know, its about time... you got an update!

I think the last post I made was last Tuesday, and since last Tuesday it seems I have been one busy beaver!

Friday, was my official last day of work... so I spent most of last week, wrapping up files, saying good-byes, and packing up my office. Friday morning driving into work was both exciting but also a bit scary/weird too. I have never 'not worked' in what seems like a very long time -since high school I would suspect. I like to think that my job keeps me grounded... I plan my life around my job. I feel as though, if I didn't have to work 5 days a week I would be at liberty to do whatever. the hell. I want. - but since I do work... and PC works too, we basically plan our lives around what we can and can't fit into the work week.

Now... I am off for an entire year, and this not working thing is all new to me. It seems that when I am just on holidays, mentally this not working business is easy because holidays come to an end pretty quickly, and normally I return to work - however, this is not the case this time. My return work will be in another 12 months, and within that 12 months A LOT is going to happen.

This week (being my first week of not working), I think is going to fly by, as I have been busy getting the baby's room in presentable form. On Saturday, my good friend Clapper came out to the house and she kicked started my organizing challenge by helping me sort, do and fold 5 loads of baby laundry. We spent all day and all night doing laundry, and then trying to organize the baby's room as much as possible. We made impeccable progress, if I do say so myself.

Since Saturday, I think I have continued to make pretty good head way on the organizing train... PC only has to install a few more things on the walls and I will be ready to 'reveal' the nursery to you.

After the nursery is done... then its onto my short list of 'nesting' items that I want to take care of... and after that I think it will be just me and the clock ... tick. tock. tick. tock. tick. tock!

For some reason, I have it in my head that I am going to be overdue, so I am trying to mentally prepare for that. I guess I really have no idea when the baby will come, but I do know that I don't want it to be this week... I will stand on my head if I have to, I just want a few more days to myself to get prepared... if that is every really possible.

I was hoping this 'not working' thing would lead to more time for blogging, but so far, it seems being at home is keeping me fairly occupied. Hopefully if I get this week out of the way, I will have some time to devote to the blog, and some progress pictures to show you what's been keeping me so busy over the last week!

Stay tuned!

Belly Update - 36 Weeks!

Well a few of you have been emailing me on the side and leaving some comments asking for a belly shot update.

I didn't get time to do the bare belly shot, but while at the cottage this weekend, my BFF (Kristy) took a few pics of me... and PC too, for your viewing pleasure.

This is the belly at exactly 36 weeks, less than 4 weeks to go now until my official due date - I can hardly believe it

I can also hardly believe that it is officially September... back in January, I never thought September would ever get here, and now that it has I have a feeling its going fly by!

Anyways... back to the photos that some of you have been long awaiting!
Enjoy!

As well... since the weather the cottage was soooo beautiful all weekend, I couldn't resist posting this one of the gorgeous sunset on the Georgian Bay.
